Beginner Electric Setup Recommendations

I'm an old gas RC modeler from the past and now interested in helping my 9 yo grandson get started with building his own. I'm thinking of simple foamboard with 24-30" wingspan. What kind of battery-motor setup would you advise,?

There are so many foam planes on the market that are fully equipped with good electric set-ups.

As a beginner in electric, I recommend you start with one of these. If you join a Flying Club, you

will pick up a lot of knowledge there as well.

It's a bit quiet in this subforum John.

You could also ask in the active Beginner Training Area subforum at the www.rcgroups.com sisterforum. Or in the Powersysems subforum overthere.
Several excellent stickies/FAQs in that subforum as well.

Training/trainer suggestions:
Advice for getting into flying RC airplanes, and how not to - The Ampeer

Some well-structured reading for rainy/windy days, including e-flight_101 & 102, and some handy e-tools. Will save you, and us a lot of questions. Notably the 'what went wrong?' kind of questions Will also prevent you from burning up several controllers and/or motors and/or battery:

And pleasepleaseplease, do your RC equipment, wallet, ego, battery, controller, motor, house/garage/car a big favour ... get a watt-meter. It will more than pay for itself, will save you at least one fried motor and one fried controller. Will also help you finding the best setup.

Prettig weekend en wees voorzichtig, Ron
