His are in the 1.00 cubic inch range. I thought maybe as high as a 1.20 but 1.00 cubic inch sounds right enough.

John Maloney -was owner of World engine - -he was sole importer of OS and ST engine for years. Shortly before business/Maloney passed on -- he made a model called the Robin and brought in a rehashed gasoline thing he named the Maloney 100.
The plane was OK- the motor is just a paperweight. This was all in about 1976/1980 as I recall.

well -it depends on your needs - I consider them just old novelty items. There are lots of converted industrial engines which are better -but if you get one for free - see if it runs well enough for your needs..

Why sure, I remember it sonny. Those gall danged engines had all kinds of gew-gaws and doo-dads on 'em. The con-sarned things ran like a forty dollar mule though. Why, back in my day, we usta run them off of Stanley Steamer fuel. Gol danged whipper-snappers came in with their fancy diesel engines like they was the Kaiser themselves but we just flew past 'em like they was bolted to the hitch'in post.
(do you think I am dating myself?)
LOL

Most of them don't run well, if at all. I still see more than a few at the swap meets - the owners wish someone (anyone please) would buy them. If you like to collect hobby related junk with no intention of flying, it could be for you.

Re: MALONEY GAS MOTORS

I had one on a Robinhood 80 (Curtis Robin wanabee) around 1978. When the engine ran it was ok, but it didn't run very often. It had lots of air leaks. I managed to shame the dealer into taking it back. The 100 meant 1.0 cu. if I remember right.

Re: MALONEY GAS MOTORS

thanks. i was asking cause i was talking with this guy that showed me one and it looked great. it has never been mounted or had any fuel ran through it. he wants 100.00 for it. it is in the original box nothing opened. i was thinking about taking it off his hands. it shure looks like it would be a good running motor. but the carbs have come a long way since then. wonder what it would do with a new style carb on it?? think its worth the money?? i got to see it today.

Re: MALONEY GAS MOTORS

What Dick is saying is, buyer beware.
Since I know Dick's reputation, and have been reading his thousands of comments, experiences, facts and data on model airplane engines for many years, I wouldn't buy it for a dollar.

Here is the reality check you seek. Whatever you install it on, will have some amount of value to you, be it hard earned dollars, or precious time.
The fact that the maloney's reputation is borderline garbage tells me that I would not trust it on ANY plane that I own, nor would I buy it to re-sell, because crap is just that, crap.
So you sell it, now you have a reputation that says the stuff I sell used, may be junk.

IF you were a model engine collector, had no intention of ever risking a plane to a crash because of a documented un-reliable engine, then you might purchase it to fill a hole in your display case, and a cute story of the engine, it's designer, and the many folks who tried and failed to get it to run reliably.

Or, you have more money than sense, and you just buy it to plant it in your aquarium, to give the fishes a new toy to play with.

Fugetaboudit.
pass.
run from it.
DON'T buy it.
Refuse it as a gift.

Good luck.
