did some tests today:
brand new gas tank, brand new lines, no air in bubbles: cowl on cowl off 17 x 12 7440 7230 18 x 12 6720 6600 20 x 6 7020 7100 premium gas red line oil 20 to 1 and, the motor hesitates, burps, powers down, etc.. does not turn off, but sounds like it is about to. just don't know if this is going to be good for me. |

Is that on a stock muffler? It takes about 3.83 HP to turn a Vess 19B to 7800 RPMs. That's also about 23 pounds of thrust. I suspect that a DLE30, rated to 3 HP, will have difficulty producing 3.8 HP for any length of time. I'm not sure that even a DLE35RA on stock exhaust can do that since its output is listed as 4.1 hp at 8,500 RPMs.

The two sources I use for headers, and the two I will be checking when the 78 MXS comes out, are Macs, and Hatori. Hatori is in Japan but guys have received their headers within 10 days and I've heard good things although I don't own one. Macs is hard to beat if they carry what you need. Troybuilt also has a header and can combo that is very reasonable, but I don't like flex headers and this engine will be silly power on a tuned pipe, so no cans for me. To keep the weight down, I'd go with an ES composite pipe, and I know guys that have connected the ES35 pipe to a Hatori header with no problem. Here are the links... but ES did not update the Web site yet... I think the 30 and 40 are no longer available and the 35 is the new product for all 30 to 35 cc engines, which makes sense.

I forgot to mention that ProFlow will probably have something for the DLE and DA 35cc engines, if they don't already. I've heard some impressive stuff about their products and I may wait and see how things develop...

Last three additions... RE-2 (MTW) and Greve will probably show up on the Desert Aircraft Web site when they begin offering the DA35. KS already has a 35cc tuned pipe. http://www.krumscheid-metallwaren.de...op.php?lang=EN
I know that since you were on the 91 thread, you know of these pipes. They are the most commonly mentioned pipes for engines 50cc and up and you probably won't go wrong with any of them. I'm probably going to go with a composite ES pipe because it's half the weight, but I'm reserving that decision until the last minute. |

Hello Aero, i just got my 18 x 8 cf prop from valley view rc, it is a hover prop. i got 7800 rpm, and after opening up the HSN and LSN, it is now humming, no burping or hesitation. what do you think 7800 rpm will get me??? |

PM sent... Not more than 18 lbs of thrust, tho, with a CF or laminated prop. Maybe 16 with a beechwood.

Hi Aero,
Just flew her again. this time with the 18 x 8 prop. well, what can i say.... it was the best flight so far, however, i do not believe this engine will ever be good enough for this plane. for all you guys out there, don't go with a 4 stroke on this plane, probably good advice for any aerobatic plane. plus, even though rudder servo is installed in the tail, i did the inverted 45 degree climb, and plane quickly arced towards the canopy. so she is still nose heavy. |

There are some nice 72 inch warbirds out there that will probably sound nice and scale with that engine. I sold all my Saito, OS, and DLE glow and gas engines last year and got almost 80% of what I bought them for several years ago. Saito and OS seem to never lose their value, so someone will have a home for it if you decide to let it go to finance a piped 35cc. It will be a great plane to take to the field and practice with on days you don't want to lug the 91 out. It will make a big difference swinging a 21A Vess to 7200 RPMs.

Yes Indeed Aero, that was exactly what i was thinking of doing. that engine would be nice on a P51, i actually have these Keleo exhaust for it. they are the side exhaust pipes, that are functional and scale. if anyone wants this engine with this muffler, let me know. hopefully in 2 weeks, the da 35 will be out, and i will purchase that and install it on this bird. +, the EF 91" is back in stock, so i ordered one, and this way, i will have new set of wings and spare parts!!! Yippie!!!!

You Lucky Dog... I'm waiting for the 91 Yak but not sure yet which way to go yet since the Yak may be a long wait. I actually have everything I need for it, but just finished putting together the second 78 since December. I really should space out these purchases a little. What was the shipping to Shreveport just in case?

flew her again today 2 times, hmmmm..., i am starting to like the engine. it is way quiet, and maybe that is one of the reasons not to like it. i was able to do somersault, but not a real good one, not like my da 60 in the 91"
