Tail Section

Finished up the tail feathers and started working on the control linkage. Not used to seeing this kind of hardware on a 25% plane but I'm told by some that are flying the plane, that it's adequate.
The control rods coming out of the fuse to the elevator control horns do not line up with the control horns in the elevators and if I used a clevis on the control rod it would tend to twist the elevator control horn. I'm going to beef up the area around the hole in the control horn, enlarge the hole so I can use a 4-40 screw to retain a ball link instead of the clevis.
If I were recovering this plane, I would double up on the control horns and use ball links throughout.
I will be using aluminum servo arms with ball links on all of the servos.

just remember a ball link puts side force on a horn a clevis does not. with not having dual horns to place the ball between i choose to use the stock hdwr and go with clevis i did find the lock nuts for the threaded rods would tear the treads from the rod if tightened too hard so i snugged them lightly with forceps and used low hold locktite

Amazing that somebody would put that much energy into this ship and not address the most glaring fault by the manufacturer, the scalloped trailing edges on the wings.

Come on Manfred, Chill out. The vendor never represented the plane to be a scale model. It certainly is a great plane to turn into more of a scale model and I do agree that with all of the work put into the one shown above, why not scallop the trailing edges while you have the covering off.
I know I'm repeating myself but this is the perfect plane to offer as an ARC.

It is what it is 😁

Finally time to assemble!

I had to shave off about 2mm of the fwd fuselage on both sides to get my fiberglass cowl side pieces to fit properly with the wing strut cutouts. The cowl seems like a nice fit, but will first be 100% sure when the RTV cures that I glued the sides with.

You may have a point. After all, scalloped trailing edges would have been hard, it’s not like other ARFs have had them.

Unless of course two different sized P-6e count;

Well, well, the don't look too hard at my $800 plane gents finally pulled some heads out of the sand! First of all, a quick search of German WWI arfs will show you that even planes at 1/4 of the price of this one added this iconic feature of the scalloped trailing edges. Here are some examples of Maxford, Hobby king, even great planes on an ugly stick! Can't tell me it can't be done. I have added this feature to my ship and it was well worth the efforts, the last pic is what a true scalloped trailing edge should look like.

As you experienced in mounting the "cheeks", this is an area you want to give close attention to
before you apply any glue.
I'm waiting on wing tubes from Horizon. They were out of them when I called for them. The upper tube is OK but could not get the lower wing tube to work.

I think it went good. We will see when I get the 4 cowl screws in

Still dont know which engine I want to install. Im leaning to a 4 stroke, as a 2 stroke just does not sound right in a ww1 plane. Have been looking at the os GF40.

Whats up with your wing tube ?
I have not tried mine yet

Both wing tubes that came with mine were out of round about .005". I sanded the upper tube a little (they are aluminum) and it fits snug in the center section. It fits well in the upper set of wings and for me that's perfect. I could not get the lower wing tube to work at all. To tight.
A friend in my home club has one of these and he had to get new wing tubes as well.
Horizon has no problem with replacing them but they were out of them when I called them. They are on back order. More on that when the new tubes come in.
You might want to try yours now to see if they fit.
