Build Log
Storchschmiede 1:3.5 MS 505 Build
After retiring from the Air Force and taking a little time away from building, I am ready to get back into the saddle again. My first build will be 1:3.5 Morane Saulnier MS 505 storchschmiede.de. I am super excited to be able to build one of Alfred's airplanes, the quality is second to none and a kit I have been looking forward to building. Paired with this excellent kit is the Airen 150cc 7 Cylinder radial engine. Luigi has produced a quality engine and this is the perfect engine for this airplane. The Airen 150 is based off the Jacobs radial engine and the MS 505 used the Jacobs radial as motive power, so this will be an excellent combination. Vogelsang Aeroscale is the distributor of the kit in the US and please contact Goetz or Daphne to order the kit! You will not be disappointed!
The kit arrived this morning after a week in transit from Alfred. About six weeks from initial contact to a kit being delivered via FedEx Freight Express. I am blown away at the quality of the kit and after two hours of unpacking everything, my initial impressions were confirmed! Quality exudes from every bubble wrapped piece that was opened. The engine is currently with Kelvin at Keleo Creations who will be producing the exhaust for the Airen 150 engines and all future offering from Airen. I am still waiting on a few things to get started, but wanted to get the thread started and share a few, OK more than a few, pictures of the arrival and un-wrapping for the kit. I will post more detailed pics in the upcoming posts, but this is the initial pictures from the arrival of the kit today. Looking forward to sharing this will you guys! Thanks! |

![]() You are correct, that is the electric starter. I may or may not use it though. The dome pictured is for the Moki 250 and has a much smaller mounting footprint than the Airen. Depending on how the mounting plate gets redesigned, for my application, the starter might be in the way. Happy to have you for the build! Quote:
The engine is a true work of art! Thanks for tagging along for the build! |

A bottle of Aerobond and off to the races!
Fantastic build coming up and thanks for sharing with us. The FG community appreciates the time it takes to document the entire build. That itself can be 10% of the time into the finished product. That radial is incredible and cant wait to hear it in your maiden video. Do you think it will fly in the spring? Enjoy the winter and get that shop dirty! |

Aerobond is on order and should be here next week, so that will give me some time to organize the parts and study the plans. Thanks again and I am looking forward to getting started! |

I subscribed to your build thread yesterday. As for the radial powered storch,IMHO,it's a work of art and design.I never found the storch to be 'ugly'.Strange yes,but for what it was designed for, awesome, and a great stol aircraft for it's time.Lastly, thanks for serving bro,and welcome home.I flew in the army over 40 years ago.Well, maybe not fly,we sort of beat the air into submission

You are too kind, thank you for your service also! Helicopters are awesome, we had the UH-1N and MI-17 in the 6 SOS. Hard to believe that I retired more than three years ago! I am happy that we are finally settling down in Idaho after a busy three years in Indiana, with a young son and working a lot, I did not have time for the hobby. It is good to be back at it! Thanks for checking in a following the build! |
