Tom Reifsnyder Takes Over Dalton Aviation

We've got big news in the giant scale world, as Tom Reifsnyder takes over Dalton Aviation from Tony Russo. Tony has built quite a legacy with Dalton, producing some of the best flying 3D airframes out there; it should come as no surprise that Tom has chosen to further the Dalton name, along with his son Kal, who are both deeply rooted in this industry.

Dalton Aviation has moved from Tucson, Arizona to Lake Placid, Florida.

A Note from Tony Russo

Dalton Aviation was formed in 2002 to supplement my hobby and to honor my son Dalton who passed away in 1997 of SIDS. I have enjoyed these past 15 years designing and building some of the top IMAC aircraft available in todayís market. Model aviation has been a part of my life for the past 28 years and the decision to sell my business was not an easy one. With my new career at Raytheon, and needing to spend more time at home with my son, my time is limited. I just canít devote the time to the business that I would like. So, I feel itís time for me to step aside. I still plan to be involved in the hobby, and to hopefully get back to flying a bit and share this awesome pastime with my son as he gets older.

My good friend Tom Reifsnyder will be the new owner of Dalton Aviation and will be moving the business from Tucson, Arizona to Lake Placid, Florida. I have been working with Tom for a few months now getting him up to speed on kit production. He has a lot of great ideas for the future of Dalton Aviation and is very enthusiastic about continuing the brand. Iím excited for Tom and his family and look forward to seeing what the future holds. I will be available during and after the transition to help Tom in any way I can and to ensure that both our old and new customers continue to receive a top-quality product for which Dalton Aviation is known.

I want to thank all my loyal customers for supporting me over the years and I look forward to getting back out to some events and flying with all of you.

Thank you and my warmest regards to all of you, Tony Russo

A Note from Tom Reifsnyder and Dalton Airframe Updates

Kal and I are very excited for the opportunity to carry on the Dalton Aviation tradition of producing high quality Precision airframes. We have fans of this airframe for a long time and Kal has had great success flying Dalton Aircraft for the past 5 years. (since he was 7 😊). Kal has been flying the new Extra 300 SP for the past year in the Unlimited Class of IMAC and absolutely loves the performance of this plane.

The following is a list of the improvements Tony has made to the 40% Dalton Extra 300 SP and 40% Extra 300 ML. The 35% Extra 260 has similar improvements.

  • New stronger and easier to build laser cut fuse construction.
  • Now longer 52" carbon fiber wing tube and phenolic.
  • Much larger diameter (increased from 5/8" to 7/8") carbon fiber stab and phenolic, now with 1/2" balsa stab tube support.
  • Foam belly pan.
  • Brand new cowl with top cowl spinner rise.
  • Carbon fiber landing gear.
  • 10" wide wing and tail group sheeting.
  • 7" wide fuse sheeting.

When I get my two teenage girls out of the house and into College, I may try my hand at building a Dalton. Sounds fun. Glad it's continuing.

Congrats!

I had a pleasant experience with Tony but it has been obvious he is extremely busy with other obligations and as I told him Family Comes first!

Thanks guys! There are more improvements coming. We are redesigning the yak to have a foam belly pan and many of the improvements that the SP and ML now have. Tony is working on the design now.
