Phoenix Model just introduced a new warbird to add to their ever expanding lineup of giant scale aircraft. Let's take a quick look at this iconic British fighter: the Supermarine Spitfire!

A Quarter-Scale Supermarine Spitfire

Phoenix Model has been on a roll lately, introducing a slew of new giant-scale ARF's that feature a good quality build for the price; it looks like the new Spitfire will be no exception! This 95" wingspan 1:4 scale rendition of the famous British fighter will be available through Tower Hobbies in late June 2017, and comes with air retracts, a scaled-out cockpit with pilot figure, a two-piece wing, scale operational panel flaps, and a good quality hardware package. The Spitfire can be setup for gas power or electric power, and will retail for $669.99.

The recommended engine is a 50cc to 60cc. The recommended electric setup is a Rimfire 50cc or equivalent motor in the 2600-3000 W, 190 KV range. Prop size recommendation is a 22x8 to 26x10 and 12s LiPo power.

That's a great price for what you get. Going to put one on my wish list.

I agree...

So is it a 1/4 spitfire or between a 1/5 and 1/4th ???

Will have to look at the dimensions.
I think there are many that have been looking for a ARF warbird in the 100cc range. I know I would like to place a KOLM inline twin or more in this one, if it is big enough.

If you do get one and it does indeed fit well, do tell! This looks like a great possibility for a KOLM inline i was thinking the same thing!

Is there a battery hatch? I'd like to know more info. AUW? What engine was used in video and if they needed ballast weight for CG? Gp61 and Extreme Flight Xpwr 60cc comes to mind for power set ups.
Maybe even gp88 evo and three blade?

Here's a link to the manual - with details of IC and electric installations - shows a nice battery hatch just in front of the canopy. Might just have to get one of these!

From towers website they label it as 1:4 3/4, or maybe better written as 1:4.75 for clarity. Anyway, definitely already on my wishlist at tower and now I just have to decide if I want to get one soon or wait and do it as a winter project. Saving for my next big event trip right now.

Looking at the DLA inline 64 for power. It's only 35mm longer than the 170mm dimensions in the manual. The manual calls for 170 mm from standoffs To the prop hub.
The only downside is it's going to chew up a lot of the cowl.

What are the klom specs? And what size motor? Don't forget if you're a Tower Hobbies club member it's $75 off the list price with the coupon code and free shipping. So you looking at a nice Spitfire for under six hundred bucks with retracts.

This looks great! I have the Phoenix 1/8 .46 size MK2 Spitfire and the build quality is awesome. This looks 10x better than the 1/8 size which is awesome. Would really LOVE to get my hands on this gem.

Free shipping?.... no usually there is a OVER SIZE FEE.... on most large aircraft..?
Perhaps it is per aircraft... case by case... .but NOT any of the large manufactures usually give free shipping....

(Although, I believe the hangar 9 has offered some free shipping before on some very LARGE aircrafts..)

Tower has a LARGE selection of free shipping items for members. Phoenix falls into that line. It more than likely is free shipping. All of Phoenix's other planes are free, including the large 107" super cub. You have to be a member though. It's worth it, it's like $10 for the year or something like that and you get better coupon codes. Every plane I've ever bought from Tower has been free shipping including my 1/8 Phoneix Spitfire.

I've made a crap load of purchases from Tower. Being a member saves a absolute ton on shipping cost. It normally pays for itself after 1 purchase. You also get access to Tower's scratch and dent section and you can find some hidden gems there.
