Thanks for the videos! I’d love to see that Ag Cat done up like Gene Soucy.

The blue on that Wildcat is matched up with the color of the sky very well, love seeing the retracts work on those babies - a real engineering wonder! Looks like he came in a little hot with the flaps... a bit squirrely! Nice flying machine there.

Of course the video was of my worst flight of the contest. I ended up earning the award for highest flight score in the Expert class with the Wildcat . For some reason I was all over the place in my round one flight. Except for a brief "make sure everything still works" flight the previous Saturday I had not flown the model since qualifying back in March.

Landings

Observations of an armchair scale pilot - please take with a grain of salt:

I have never flown RC scale but I have watched lots of full-scale aircraft from the ground and been a passenger in general aviation planes. From this experience I know that it must be very very hard to fly a model, even a large one, in a scale-like manner.

...as is illustrated by the difficulty pilots have landing their planes in this video. In general the speeds seem fast and that the elevator control is too touchy. I sympathize with the difficulty, I trust it's clear.

Landing any RC plane is a hair-raising event (and a highlight of every flight from a spectator's point of view, and a true show of pilot skill)! Having flown pattern contests where all landings are judged for 1) being on the centerline of the runway, 2) touchdown must take place at judge-center +/- 15 meters (ON center is better), 3) stabilized approaches below 2 m, 4) no bouncing, etc... and all landings are done w/o wing flaps; flying pattern is for sure a good way to practice your landings!

And landing is a maneuver that must be practiced. When I was flying pattern a few times a week, I always ended my flying sessions spending at least 1/2 to a whole of a battery on approaches and landings - especially in challenging wind conditions of crosswinds and turbulence. It's really important, just like in full scale planes, to land a taildragger in a sideslip, upwind wing low with opposite rudder.

Trust me I get it that scale pilots are flying a one of a kind airframes worth thousands of $ and hundreds of hours of labor, touchy landing gear and god forbid you should loose control on landing because of lack of speed. But I suggest practicing landings with a beater with a similar wing loading that it wouldn't hurt too much to damage and is easily repaired. Excellent landings are awesome and the highlight of every flight!

All in all I enjoyed the videos very much and thank you for sharing - scale is so cool!
