Maiden tomorrow, new pants!!

So in preparation of the maiden tomorrow I decided to make some new wheel pants! The spats just didn't look quite right and I'm glad I went through the trouble of making some new wheel pants.

Made out of 2" balsa with some ply to support the axles. These took longer to cover than woodwork. The covering was a challenge because you can't get a hold of them. You have to really pull to stretch the covering but it's hard.

I'ts like trying to hold onto a fish while you iron monokote on it! lol

Installed a new Falcon 26X12 prop with CF spinner. Ran it up again today and it changed the tuning quite a bit. Also changed out the carb on the DA 120. The V2 carb never let me have a decent midrange. The switch back to V1 made the difference and it purrs like a kitten now, runs like a clock!!! Ready for MAIDEN!

Sanded the fiberglass up to the ply ring. Makes a super nice, strong edge that will resist cracking and breaking. Really made the lower cowl ring super rigid and strong.

Cut a channel in some Darice Craft foam. I used the chop saw with the depth of the cut set half way through the foam. Then I used a french curve to make an arch shape. Installed around the front of the bottom cowl opening. I like how clean this came out. Pretty fast too!

Ready for flight. On to installing the exhaust system. Canisters showed up today with mounts, clamps and couplings. New K&S cans are soooooo pretty.

After this it's on to the hatch. I have some work there removing the foam insert, building a new hatch deck and installing another hold down to the rear. I need to install a pilot and dash ect...
Wanted to thank you for the build tip on reinforcing the bottom cowl vent...I took it another step and added a negative air flange in the process...came out really strong and much better than my vent on a previous build thanks again.

Sorry, I won't be able to answer that for you. I just know the Darice foam is an excellent material to work with.
