From Terryscustom...
I'm so happy with this new AJ Z200! I used Andrew's proven wing dimensions, paired with my airfoil that I've been working on perfecting for several years. This combination on a sleak 100% new fuselage design and new ground up wing redesign produced a phenomenal plane that has great roll rate, nice speed and precision, blistering snaps and a smooth transition from tumbles to dead solid harriers that I feel is better than any 70cc plane I've flown. I hope you enjoy this plane as much as I do!

I was busy all day so I just had time this evening to get a few pictures. This airframe was packaged better than any other I've ever received. The wings were tripled boxed! The middle box had wooden spacer frames around it to center it inside the outer box for added protection. The fuselage was held firmly in place by a few foam supports.
The wing attachment and canopy latches are pretty clever. The wing panel latches insert a pin into the anti-rotation pins. you have to firmly pull out on the spring-loaded knob to get them to release to slide the locking pin upwards. The canopy latches work the same. I like the idea of field assembly without any tools or hardware. I piled up all the components, including the bags of hardware and came up with a weight of 8.56 lbs. for the fuselage and 3.55 lbs. for the wing panels. Total is 12.11 lbs. for the airframe. I'll be adding a DA 70 with J&A mufflers and Futaba BLS172SV servos all around. More details to follow once I receive everything and get assembly underway. Impressive work on this model by AJ Aircraft! |

I'll also note that the rudder on this model is huge. I also ordered a new rudder for my 105 Laser 230Z so I laid them side-by-side for comparison. The Z200 rudder is only about 1.5" shorter the 230Z but it is significantly wider.

My cowl ring to firewall distance measures about 170mm, and the DA-70 is about 141mm long. So I need an engine standoff of about 30mm so that the spinner-cowl gap is acceptable. Is there a supplier that handles a 30mm aluminum standoff, or do I need to fabricate a wooden spacer?

Yep, I found out too that the included stand-offs are to short for the DA-70. Luckily I had some O.S. stand-offs and work perfect. Here is my spinner gap. This is with a 5" spinner, my 4 1/2" is on order.

That looks great! Were those the O.S. 31.8mm X 5mm or the O.S. 25.4 X 5mm with a couple of washers?

These are what I used. It results in a nice spinner gap.

The cowl to firewall distance on mine is a hair over 170mm measured using a jig with 3/32 spacers to "create" the desired spinner gap. The DA 70 is 140.63mm so that calculates to a spacer length of 29.37mm. I'm off to my buddy's machine shop to make me some 29mm spacers. They will give me a nice spinner gap between 1/16" and 3/32"

I was up late and fashioned a laminated plywood spacer measuring 9mm thick and used the supplied 20mm aluminum standoffs to give a total standoff length of ~29mm. Weighs about 35grams.
