257" B-36D Scratch build.
Hello all,
This plane build is on other forums, but had a bunch of people say it needs a thread here. This plane has been in design for over 10 years, first designed it in CAD, then 3D. She will have 6 hackers and be turning 6 20/14 props, the weight will be 85 pounds. I will post more info later. Thanks, DAG |

Re: 257" B-36D Scratch build.
Pics of my main gear design.
I started the design 10 years ago with the intent of it be 257" with 6 gas engines, but after doing all the calcs I realized that the plane would weigh over 110 pounds because I would need 45 pounds of ballast to off-set the engines weight at the trialing edge of the wing. Now with electric motors I can build a 257" B-36D and hit about 85 pounds. I have drawn the entire plane in both 3D max, and AutoCAD so I can scale the drawings to any size I need. The plane will have 6 Hacker Motors turning Zinger 3 blade 20" props, in testing I get about 8 minutes at full power and 15 at 65% cruise power. I have printed out all of my plans on my plotter and have been cutting wood for about 2 months. I have been using Ecalc and it looks to be spot on with what I am seeing in testing. DAG |

DAG,
Great looking bird! You're doing the Air Force proud! I suppose we have to get you signed up for the Mac Hodges school for aerobatic bomber pilots real soon! WT ![]() ![]() |

Re: 257" B-36D Scratch build.
Thanks for the great comments,
I hope I don't get into spins, and inverted flight much. However, I am designing a dropping system so I can drop 66 fake 500 pounders, or one of the MK17 nukes. I just startedthe construction of this plane in October and plan on having it in the air by June. The fact I spent so long designing this bird in 3D is the reason it is going together so fast, it is building like a big fat Goldberg kit. The plane will have 12 batteries for the motor, 2 each 4 cell 5100Mha per motor, 3 RX with 2 each 123 batteries each, 3 batteries for the 3 retracts, and 30 servos. A few more pics. My son is holding a few parts. And I have been asked many times, I wish I had a laser cutter, but this is all hand cut. DAG |

Here are pics of me putting the carbon fiber on the spars. The plane will be sheeted with 3/32 balsa, then glassed with .5Oz cloth.
