What's up in the MidWest

Just trying to figure out what’s going on here in the Midwest? Anybody getting any flying in lately, anything new for this next season of flying, and do you have any flying events that the rest of us Midwesterners need to attend?

Flying is pretty much confined to indoors right now ........... but with all the new micro planes and helis available it sure is a lot of fun and makes the long winter months fly by.

Indoor stuff up here too, lots of snow and cold for a few more months.
I've been working on some 30cc stuff, you guys gotta get into these smaller ones too! I was looking for something small to keep in the truck for lunch breaks and stuff. The 3DHS Velox with a DL30 is the bomb. It flies alot like the big slick but TONS of pullout. I think this 30cc market is going to explode in the next few months as more guys try these out.

We have an indoor event Feb 6th, the Flurry Fest at the golf dome if anyone is in the area.

take care,,
Troy

Building and flying foamies at the moment. Built a new T-rex 600 LE with the new .55 motor. should have tons of power.

Trying to organize an indoor funfly for February as well. Will have more info on that soon.

We have a heli only fun fly scheduled for July 23-25. Let all your friends know.

Cold and snowy here on the Mississippi. Building and covering season for me. Have a One Design on the burner right now. Still drawing plans at this time. Should have them done this weekend unless friends call to go snowmobiling on the backwaters. Hopefully this cold is making some good ice. One way or the other I'll spend time off doing what I enjoy.

Troy; Would one of those 30cc work well in a Wild Hare 73" Edge? I have one with a Saito 150 but not enough power, good for sport flying but not Imac or 3D. I have been trying to sell it to help fund my big birds, but would consider keeping it if it was more fun to fly. Stay warm Gene

Re: What's up in the MidWest

How heavy Gene?
I'm running the velox at around 9lbs, pulls out stronger than a 24lb 111cc to give you a reference. I think it would pull out a 12lb plane pretty decent but if you could be around 10 or less it is "foamie like".
To reference it to a Saito 125 running 30%, the saito would barely pull out/hover it, the 30 is a rocket so you should be ok replacing the 150. The 30 has roughly 18lbs of thrust with an 18x8, the vess 19 a and b may be even stronger. Keep in mind also you are hauling much less fuel, an 8oz tank lasts 20 min with some to spare doing mostly 3d stuff.
Clay is building one of his 260's with a crrc26, it will be interesting to see how that does.
We messed with a brillelli 26 in a funtana right toward snowfall here, that was significantly stronger than the saito too but a smidgeon heavier than the 30.

Our fun flies this year are:
July 9-11, Prairie Rose State Games fun fly
August 20-22, Art May Memorial fun fly

take care,,
Troy

Mr. Lappster,

Do you have any pictures of the foamies that you are building? I have a couple of the Fancy Foam planes still in the box with all the items needed to get them going. I guess I should put off the "big" projects and get these done so I can do some flying.

Later,
Z

Indoor fun fly for Feb is a bust. The basket ball flooring is down until March 11th. No street shoes etc. So we will have to stick to the small venues for this season.

Have you ordered your combat plane yet? Mine should be here next week!!

And what happened with our Freeze fly? Who decided to cancel that because of cold temps. Isn't that the point of a freeze fly? Flying no matter what the temp, and bragging about it. I even built a plane specifically for this purpose. OH WELL

Troy-

I'd like some info on the foamies too. And the website where you found the cheap outrunner motors.

Just trying to keep warm in the outback of the US.
