Re: Pilot-RC 40% Decathlon building thread

Is a 3w150cs to big of an engine for this plane?
I have one and I am looking for a bird to put it in.

Donnie and Tony, let me know what you think!
Thanks!

for the 40%er ???? NO WAY .. way to much .. a DA 120 gives you the ability to touch the tail t the ground , and pull vertical . this is with stock muffs .. if you want more power , just put the 120 on KS 86 rears , even better .......... Trade the 3W150 cs for some $ ....

I just started building the Pilot-rc 40% Decathlon - what a beautiful plane. Does anyone know what these four plywood blocks are used for?

Hi Higharc,
I haven't actually started assembling my 40% Decathlon; but, I went through all my Decathlon parts and didn't see anything like those in your pictures, although I have my parts stashed away in locations that I may have forgotten about., I'm building another 40% plane first and have parts for both planes stored in my basement.

Could they be parts to aid in cannister muffler installation?
What are their dimensions? Maybe the dimensions would give me a clue. I looked for large plywood parts.

Good Luck.

Larry,

They are only 1" x 2".

I found them!
Here's my guess.
The large holes in them match the wheel axle diameter.
They are found in the long package of part between what I believe are the landing gear screws and the wheel pants screws. (At least I fastened the gear on so far and believe I used the appropriate screws for that.)

I believe they are some sort of spacers to be used when attaching the wheel pants.
If you look inside a wheel pant, you'll see a piece of plywood with holes similar to those on one of the small plywood pieces that is in question.

That's my best guess. I don't have a definite idea at this point on how they are used with the pants, but, I'll bet that's where the wind up.

They attach to the inside of the wheel pants, between the wheel collar and the wheel pant.

Thanks Tony.
I've got it now.
Also, I just found and look at some of the 47% Decathlon thread at your Pilot website.
I wish I had a way to transport a 47% to the flying field. It really looks great!
