PAU's new 100cc Ultimate assembly, setup, and fly!

Hey guys,

Brought the box home and I am going to be going over the assembly while updating the manual as there has been quite a few changes. I was the proud owner of the original and loved that Ultimate. Hundreds of these where sold and while visiting other flying fields someone had one or new somebody who had one. I am really excited about the new one and can't wait to get it in the air.

We'll without rambling on and on here are some pictures. Since many like seeing the box here you go. The Ultimate comes in a single plywood lined box as do all PAU's 100cc and above aircraft.

Here are the contents. The new Ultimate uses all CF wing and stab tubes now. The aircraft also comes with CF landing gear that is mounted further forward than the previous version. Included hardware is now standard such as PAU's aluminum horns, graphic package, Dubro wheels, fuel tank, axles, and pull-pull, as well as H9 titanium push rods. I've also posted a picture of the bottom of the wings and stabs so you can see more of the trim scheme.

Here are some pictures of the fuse. It uses the standard two top hatches for clean access to the interior. Also since it now uses a cowl ring, access to the forward hatch will always available which was not the case with the old one. Also room for canisters has been provided.

Looking forward to the build. Looks like some thought went into the redesign. I like the new color scheme.
This year the new Extra. Next Year this has possibilities.

Thanks guys. I am still awaiting my servo and battery order but there's plenty to get done in the meantime. I am going to use a DA-85 with a PAU 85 standoff mount, DA has my muffler on the way right now. I have an 85 in my Edge and I love the combo so I am going the same route with the Ulti.

I may have check into Dave Sullivan's new canisters I seen on the front page. If he really has the mid-range figured out on those cans, he going to do very well with them. I also have a 4.5" Nolimtz silver Ultimate spinner.

This will make it even more interesting to me.
I"d like to see how the DS canister works on this with the 85. I've been following the thread. The mid range and smooth transition sounds good to me.

I am very interested as well. I ran a KS 95 on my first 85 but that lasted for about two weeks. Really was not satisfied with the mid range and pulled it out. So word on the new cans have me stoked but a Pitts is going on until I hear more.

Got some more work done this weekend. Pretty straight forward, mounted the single piece carbon fiber gear and tail wheel assembly.

Installed the DA-85 using the thrust guide on the firewall. I also used the template provided for the 85 that comes with the manual. Just draw the vertical and horizontal centerline based off the laser cut "X". The horizontal line needs to be lowered by 1/2". Tape the template to the firewall matching up the lines, mark and drill. PAU provides the template for the DA 100 and 120.

Here are some pictures with the motor mounted using the PAU standoff mount. I've also cut out the area in the cowl for the cylinder head. I'll finish cutting the cowl once my muffler arrives from DA but this allows me to fit the cowl in the meantime. I'll make a relief as I did with the Edge 540 for the spark plug wire.

Cowl is mounted with just two bolts. The bottom portion of the cowl interlocks with the with the formers so only the top two bolts are required. I also test fit the spinner to make sure the motor lined up with the cowl correctly.
