RUN AWAY! Its the zdz 180!

After Owning this ENGINE I have done a 180, on the is 180. AND DO NOT RECCOMMEND IT


Holly crap, why isn't there more talk about this engine? Just flew my first flight on this and its bonkers, I never seen a 44lb aircraft being yanked around like this. MAD power, transplated a DA-170 to the ZDZ180 on pro flow cans, very very happy with this setup and its currently only on breakin with mej 30x13L.

Looks like I have to sell my DA-170s

As some of you might know, we race Giant scale unlimited..
This plane is powered by a much modified ZDZ 180..It is the fastest unlimited we have ever seen, 250+ radar verified MPH..The ZDZ 180 is exceeded only by the ZDZ 210, which also race...
we tried 'em all, ZDZ rules...So far, we have a few surprises in the works...

I have it in the E.f. 125" extra, Lets just make a dedicated 180 thread, I seen the other thread but 60% of the posts were for the 90, which is a nice engine I have seen it run.

The only thing I don't like with this engine is the carb sticking out in the back, you have to hack up the firewall, and the fact you have to have choke servo, I prefer manual chokes, other than that is been great.

1 Big issue was the cylinders were backwars, i.e opposite config of the DA, so I had to re-do the baffles.

Man I'm going to put this into the 126" slick... but my plane has DA stickers on it ohh well its the traitor life for me...

My friend Dick Sizer...His engine is a very good copy of the Herbrandson twin we race...He has the crank and rods made here in the USA, except jfor the Stihl 090 pistons and cylinders and Walbro carbs....Not sure about the performance numbers, have not seen or tested a complete engine....He will back up the service claims....

Here's the cure..That crankcase is NOT cast, it's right off the 5 axis mill...Reed valve from a GoKart..

I do believe this is Planebender in this video with the ZDZ-180 on proflo's
sure does seem to pull that 37.5% Pilot Yak out of a hover like it was a foamy.
ZDZ-180 on Pro Flow Canisters (3 min 56 sec)


He's loving the new GP-176evo as well
