I LOVE cans......in my Airplane too!

That is why I decided to go with a ZDZ Super 80. Total savings over a 100cc two banger is $800 or more, with nearly the same power. Should pull my AM 33% Yak great! I bought the large JMB can, will have to shoe-horn it in there though.

Yeah Im definitly going with cans. It just seems like an all around better set up for what I want.

I would say cans without a doubt. You may not have any noise issues now but the odds are, there will be noise issues in the future. I do a lot of low throttle, low maneuvers and I like to hear the idle. Initially it took time to get used to the low throttle sound but once you do, the cans sound great and avoid noise issues.

I'm getting cans for my da 100 I bought mtw and headers from desert aircraft. what would be good header length for the mtw's ? noise has'nt been an issue at our field but after my first year competing IMAC. I'm going to cans and a 3 blade.

now the sound is what i dont like - BUT Ijust gota get use to it

snapplane, maybe my perspective will help. I am an engine dealer for DA, I have sold lots of motors, mufflers and cannister systems for them. Every year I get about 3 - 5 guys in your situation. All but one guy I have talked into cannisters and everyone of those have thanked me later that they got cans and everyone of them say they will never consider standard mufflers again. The one guy who did not get the cannister system had a cost problem and he is not into IMAC and only flies at one field where noise is not a factor. Also consider this, the cost and the time go to the back of your memory quickly, but the noise will remind you each day.

call DA and they will tell you the correct header length.

Just finished my first canister install and well- that was cool. Enjoyed quite a bit for something different - that is AFTER I got over the frustration of the header length being too long by 2".

Some guys on another FG thread were saying - why not just the header off? Well me being green at this and all, I was convinced the raised collar ''pressing" @ 1" from the end was necessary. NOT!


What I'd like to know is how some of you installed the inside bolt for the header - with the pipe getting in the way. (can see in first pic due to header pipe in the way.
I ended up cutting the head off a bolt and loc tight the stud into the engine - and then using a lock washer with nut.
What have you done if different - yet faced with similar conditions?

I was one of the first ones at my club to go with canisters several years ago. My 3W200 was one of the quietest motors out there as long as I had the 3 blade on it. They help the midrange quite a bit, wished they were lighter though Only advantage to Smoke "Mufflers" besides weight is they make great smoke, other than that they are useless My new 275 has PEFA cans, I could only imagine that thing with smoke mufflers

Well I did put the 'T!Ts" on the boar hog on this one. Heck for $5 mo $$ I now have provisions for great smoke when the mood strikes to do-all-dat.
As for the added weight, as I read it - it is all but negligible = < 1 gram.
I say go for it - even if it is plans for the future!
